“Highly recommend the beaver tours, a truly wonderful tour and experience, truly a lovely memory.
My partner and I have not been disappointed, it has been really exciting seeing the beavers. Initially, we did an evening tour with Dave who spotted the beavers and provided lots of background information on what beavers eat, beaver behaviour and what to look for. Our next tour was on private land organised and guided by Chris, we had an amazing experience seeing the beaver dams which had built, watching adult beavers swimming, very young beavers (kits) out foraging, grooming and swimming. Without Dave & Chris’s knowledge and experience passed on we would not have had such a wonderful unique experience seeing beavers in their natural habitat along with the birds we saw during the tour. “Chris’s full day tour was the single best day on our Devon holiday, as an enthusiastic – but inexperienced – pair of birders we were keen to see some of the key species in a Devon Spring as well as see our first Beavers. Chris was a brilliant guide, his experience working with the RSPB on Cirl Buntings meant that we were immediately in a safe pair of hands and his affable and easy going nature meant that the hours flew by. Chris went above and beyond, I mentioned that I had never seen a nightjar so after seeing 4(!) beavers Chris insisted on taking us to a well known spot to try and glimpse an early migrant. Venturing out for the first time since ‘Lockdown’, we didn’t know what to expect, but from the first evening spent on the river looking for beavers it was just great. “Originally my friend and I had planned a birding trip abroad but there was no chance (due to Covid-19) so we took the option of visiting East Devon, with Chris as our expert guide. It turned out to be a great decision as we met the beavers of the river Otter as well as visiting two other main habitats – coast and heath for seeing a variety of birds too. My highlights were the Cirl bunting, Dartford warblers and Peregrine Falcons. The beavers were a delight with several close encounters including watching one male meet a swan family! The day after our trip finished the Re-introduction Project was given permission for the beavers to stay! His experience, gained after several years of observations, was put to good use as he took us to the exact spot where the beavers emerge and at the right time.
